Annandale is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population was 54,994 at the 2000 census. DemographicsAs of the census of 2000, there were 54,994 people, 19,927 households, and 14,088 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 3,984.5 people per square mile. There were 20,243 housing units at an average density of 1,466.7 per sq mi. In Annandale VA the population was spread out with 22.6% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 32.4% from 25 to 44, 25.9% from 45 to 64, and 11.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age in Annandale VA was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.3 males. According to a 2007 estimate, the median income for a household in Annandale VA was $90,711, and the median income for a family was $111,514. Annandale High School has one of the area's few International Baccalaureate Degree programs. The student newspaper, The A-Blast, has received awards from such organizations as the National Scholastic Press Association and the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. Ensembles within the school's choral program have performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, as well as many European venues. Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology is a magnet school that is located on the east side of Annandale VA, although it has an Alexandria zip code.
