McLean is an unincorporated community in Fairfax County in Northern Virginia. As of the 2000 census, Mclean had a total population of 38,929 . The densely populated community of Mclean Virginia is located between the George Washington Parkway and Vienna. Mclean is known for its many upscale homes, as well as its shopping and upscale malls, including the nearby Tysons Corner Center and Tysons Galleria which have 'McLean, Virginia' addresses. McLean is home to many diplomats, members of Congress and high-ranking federal government officials, entrepreneurs and service businesses partially attributable to the close location to Washington, D.C. and the Central Intelligence Agency. It is also the location of Hickory Hill, the home of Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Robert F. Kennedy. Several major companies are headquartered in McLean including Bearingpoint, Booz Allen Hamilton, Capital One, Cardinal Bank, Freddie Mac, Gannett, Mars, MicroStrategy, NVR, Sunrise Senior Living, and USA Today. There were 14,374 households out of which 36.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.3% were married couples living together, 6.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.1% were non-families. 18.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.05. The population was spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 4.0% from 18 to 24, 23.5% from 25 to 44, 31.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.5 males. According to a 2007 estimate, the median income for a household in Mclean Virginia was $156,292, and the median income for a family was $181,773. Males had a median income of $100,000+ versus $76,881 for females. The per capita income for Mclean Virginia was $63,209. About 0.8% of families and 1.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.0% of those under the age of 18 and 2.3% of those 65 and older. Education Langley High School is one of two high school serving McLean McLean residents belong to the Fairfax County Public Schools district. There are two public high schools-Langley High School and McLean High School, and two middle schools-James Fenimore Cooper Middle School and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Middle School. Mclean Virginia's public elementary schools include Churchill Road, Franklin Sherman, Spring Hill, Kent Gardens, Haycock, and Chesterbrook elementary schools. Residents of Mclean Virginia also attend the nearby Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, ranked the #1 high school in the nation by US News and World Report.
